Achythan A, Dr is basically a Civil Engineer having high exposure to hydraulics and fluid mechanics as well as Environmental issues. He acted as the Commission for enquiring into the effects of Endosulfan spraying in Kasaragod district, Kerala. He enquired about the effects of Coca Cola plant in Plachimada in Kerala also. He was born in Trichur district of Kerala state, India. He was one of the founders of Vasthuvidyapratisthanam, a society to promote vastu and traditional architecture in Kerala. He belongs to one among the founders of Kerala Sasthra Sahithya Parishad (KSSP). He worked as professor in various government engineering colleges as well as in Calicut University. He was the editor of Ore Oru Bhoomi, one of the little magazine concentrating on environmental issues of Kerala published by Society for the Environmental Protection, Kerala (SPEK). At present he is living in Kozhikkode. Now he is involved with various environmental protection movements in Kerala, especially related with water. He is the author of a handful of malayalam and English books.

Environment groups are unhappy with the Achyuthan committee for not pinning the blame for the human tragedy in Kasaragod on the use of endosulfan in cashew plantations of the Plantation Corporation of Kerala.
Achyuthan, who headed the committee constituted by the State Government to probe the effects of the aerial spraying of endosulfan in Kasaragod district, strongly defended its recommendations and refuted the criticism targeted at the report.
Achyuthan said that criticism against the report had stemmed from the inability to see the issue from a scientific perspective and because the relevance of animal studies to human diseases was not properly understood by some critics.
Sept 02: Villagers win temporary reprieve against endosulfan spraying (681 words)
Achyuthan, convenor of this committee, was the Director of Agriculture and in charge of plant protection activities in the Kerala.
Dr Achyuthan`s Committee did not take samples, but visited two villages and held a public hearing in Kasaragod town, 35 km from the most affected village.
Citing only the Achyuthan Committee report, the Agriculture Secretary lifted the blanket ban on endosulfan in plantations and crops in Kerala.
