This battle took place on 25 September 1806 between a British force of 6 battleships and a sloop and a French force of 5 frigates and 2 corvettes. Unusually for French ships of the period, the 4 largest frigates put up a tough fight, damaging the rigging of Mars in particular, before they were caught and captured. The remaining frigate and the 2 corvettes fled early on. Only 3 of the British battleships were in action. Infatigable was renamed Immortalité and Minerve was renamed Alceste.
