Seward was drafted by Carolina in the 5th round (149th overall) of the 2005 NFL Draft. Seward attended college in his hometown of Las Vegas for the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where he played four years for the Rebels. Seward was versatile while in college, and played all three linebacker positions. He was rewarded for his prowess with three All-Mountain West Conference honors. When he graduated in 2004, he left as the all-time leader in tackles (433) for not just UNLV, but for the MWC as well. In addition to football, he was a star athlete in track (shot put & discus), and won the Nevada state heavyweight title in wrestling. His father played for Eastern Illinois University, and was the co-captain of the squad which won the NCAA Division II football title in 1978.
