Encyclopedia > Adelskalender

Adelskalender is a ranking table for speed skating. Gaetan Boucher training for the 1976 Olympics Speed skating or speedskating is a form of ice skating in which the competitors attempt to travel a certain distance over the ice as quickly as possible. ...

The calendar was introduced in Norway, and means directory of nobility. It is a ranking of skaters, made from personal bests. Like in samalog competitions, the skater's time on each distance is divided in 500 metre averages and added up – the lower the sum, the better. This system was introduced in 1928, replacing ranking points in the traditional 4 distance championships. 1928 was a leap year starting on Sunday (link will take you to calendar). ...

For example, the points for Johann Olav Koss, Norway, are calculated as follows: Johann Olav Koss (born October 29, 1968, in Drammen) is a Norwegian speed skater, considered to be one of the best in history. ...

500 m: 37.98 = 37,98 seconds x 1 37,980 points
1500 m: 1:51.29 = 111,29 seconds / 3 37,096 points
5000 m: 6:34.96 = 394,96 seconds /10 39,496 points
10000 m: 13:30.55 = 810,55 seconds /20 40,527 points
Total: 155,099 points

The classical Adelskalender consists of the all round championship distances: 500, 1500, 5000 and 10000 m for men; 500, 1500, 3000 and 5000 m for women. Similar rankings in any other combination are maintained by enthusiasts and available on the Internet.
