Adenau was mentioned 992 for the first time under the name "Adenova". Ulrich count of Are donated his mansion 1162 to the Saint John Order (also called Order of Malta).So was Adenau the third oldest settlement of this order in Germany. The Hohe Acht

Rock am Ring, 2005

The international rock festival Rock am Ring^[4] is a major cultural event. Every year 80000 people and more meet near Adenau to "rock". The first time that it was arranged was in year 1985. The presentation was originally planned as an unique event. Because of the profit ( 75.000 viewers) they decided that the event will take place every year. They depositted a break of 2 years, after the big irruption of the numbers of viewers in year 1988. In the year 1991 the largest rock festival went on with a revised concept. A new main focus was on the concept to present more newcomers to the audience. Some of the then unknown artists are now one of the biggest sizes in business. Among other things the groups INXS or Alanis Morissette occurred at 'Rock am Ring'. An important part of the festival is the camp around the festival site. His character has developed in the course of time: In the first few years were mainly small tents and a few vans to be seen.
