Created in 1992 as the first regular cup competition to run alongside the K-League, the Adidas Cup became a popular early season tournament with the fans and players alike. The Korea Professional Soccer League, more commonly known today as the K-League was founded in 1983 with five member clubs, and is the oldest professional football league in Asia. ...


The format for the tournament varied, from a straight league system with the top team picking up the trophy to two groups with semi-finals and even a straight knock-out competition.


The Adidas Cup was dropped from the Korean league season for 2003 as the K-League expanded to 12 clubs and implemented a mammoth 44 game season.
