AdrianDalsey, the 'D' of DHL Worldwide Express and a pioneer in the air express industry, died on Monday at a hospital near his home here after a brief illness, the company said today.
Dalsey and two associates, Larry Hillblom and Robert Lynn, were working for a small delivery company here in the San Francisco Bay Area when they decided in 1969 to found DHL, which started by flying cargo documents to Honolulu to allow ships to unload faster.
Dalsey helped build the company until the mid-1980's, when he retired from day-to-day operations.
