This article has been tagged since February 2006. Advaita Acharya (b 1434 CE), is famous as a Gaudiya Vaishnava saint, and as being one of the close companions of Caitanya Mahaprabhu. He was born in Bengal in 1434, some fifty years before Sri Caitanya. He spent most of his adult life in the town of Shantipur, with his wife and family, and became the well-respected leader of the brahmana community there. At Shantipur, he taught the philosophy of Bhagavad-gita and Srimad-Bhagavatam, and promoted the path of bhakti-yoga, loving service to Sri Krishna. Life Story It is described that as time went by, Advaita Acarya became increasingly saddened with the growing tendency for people to abandon their spiritual practices, for materialistic goals – the pursuit of wealth and the medieval equivalents of sex, drugs, and rock and roll.
