Histology of the Blood Vessels (3497 words)
The adventitia is the thickest layer in large veins and is made of collagen fibres, some elastic fibres and fibroblasts.
The adventitia is not distinct in any of the vessels, and blends in with the little bit of yellowish collagenous CT through which they are running.
The adventitia of the vessels blends in with the surrounding CT. An adventitia is most distinct along the top left of the vein, where it borders on adipose cells.
Blue Histology - Vascular System (3916 words)
Larger vessels are therefore accompanied by smaller blood vessels which supply the tunica adventitia and, in the largest vessels, the outer part of the tunica media of the vessel wall.
It is difficult to identify an external elastic lamina or to distinguish the tunica adventitia from the connective tissue surrounding the vessel.
The transition from the tunica adventitia to the surrounding connective tissue is gradual.
