Adventitious, in botany, refers to structures that develop in an unusual place, and in medicine, it refers to conditions acquired after birth. Botany is the scientific study of plant life. ... Adventitious roots arise from branches, stems and leaves. These roots usually grow when in places where the plant is in contact with soil or water.
