Aelfwynn was the only daughter of Earl Aethelred of Mercia and his wife and successor Ethelfleda. She joined her mother as "lady of the Mercians" in 918. Aelfwynn - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (174 words)
Aelfwynn (Ælfwynn, Elfwina) of Mercia, was the only daughter of Earl Aethelred of Mercia and his wife and successor Ethelfleda.
Edward appears to have taken notice of this as he gave Mercia to his son Athelstan at his death.
She should not be confused with Aelfwynn, wife of Athelstan Half-King.

She married Aethelred or Ethelred, later the ealdorman or earl of Mercia, in about 886, and had one daughter, Aelfwynn.
She was joint lady of the Mercians along with her young daughter Aelfwynn.
Aelfwynn was conducted as a captive into Mercia by her uncle Edward, who was engaged in successful warfare against the Danes; and we do not hear anything more concerning her in history.
