Aerosmith is a long-running heavy metal band, originally forming in Boston, Massachusetts in the early 1970s, and enjoying a later resurgence in popularity in the late 1980s.
By the time the album was released, Tyler and Perry had exited rehab and appeared on Run D.M.C. 's massively successful cover of "Walk This Way", blending rock and roll and hip hop.
Aerosmith signed to Columbia Records in the early 1990s, but had to complete two contractual albums for Geffen[?] before recording for the new label.

Aerosmith's self-titled debut album, Aersomith, was released in the fall of 1973, climbing to number 166.
Aerosmith recorded Night in the Ruts in 1979, releasing the record at the end of the year.
The album was as successful as the band's previous two records, featuring the hit singles "Livin' on the Edge," "Cryin'," and "Amazing." In 1994, Aerosmith released Big Ones, a compilation of hits from their Geffen years; it went double platinum shortly after its release.
