Plot summary

Terry Brogan (Bridges), an aging pro football player, finds himself searching for the sexy and mysterious Jessie Wyler (Ward). "Jake might have a job for you", says Tommy dryly (played by Dorian Harewood) one of Jake's henchmen. Here's $15,000 right now - when you find her I'll give you the other twenty", says shady Jake Wise (Woods). "Why do you trust me with her anyhow?", asks Brogan. "Jessie hates football players", replies Jake. "The daughter of an owner, living with a bookie", observes Brogan. The blue skies and white sands of Cozumel serve as backdrop for Terry's search. Animal instinct is too powerful for the two as Terry and Jessie unexpectedly fall in love. Intuitively, Wise dispatches trainer Hank Sully (Alex Karras) to search for the two. "What the hell are we doing here?", laments Sully. Jessie flees the tiny island after a climactic altercation between the three. With the murder of Sully on both their hands, Terry heads back to the States, only to find Jessie back in the arms of Jake Wise. Wise coerces Brogan into another job - "it's dirty - but not so dirty you won't sleep nights...", says Wise. The elaborate frame is foiled with the help of Kirsch's secretary, the quirky Edie (played by Swoosie Kurtz). "That idiot football player has got us by the balls - What do you want??, asks Caxton during a cell phone conversation. "I want Jake slapped down - its that simple", replies Brogan. The showdown atop Wyler Canyon has Jake pitted against Terry. With Caxton and Tommy looking on, Jessie shoots Jake dead, her trembling hands holding the smoking revolver. Terry and Jessie remain forever in love...Against All Odds.

While the soundtrack to the 1984 Out of the Past remake Against All Odds is now best remembered for Phil Collins ' classic theme song for the movie, the album also features several other memorable songs, as well as excerpts from Larry Carlton 's synthesizer-heavy score.
"Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now") remains not only one of Collins' definitive singles, but one of the 1980s' best love songs, a perfect mix of over-the-top drama and genuine emotion that has aged better than anyone might have expected in 1984.
While it's not an especially great soundtrack, Against All Odds is still an entertaining '80s artifact.
