Age fudging is a slang term used when a person deliberately lies about their actual age for the purpose of gaining privileges or seeming younger, sometimes going as far as to altering vital records. Most often, it is usually lowered. Sometimes it is not the person themselves that lower their age, but others around them such as publicists, parents, and other handlers. A publicist is a person whose job is to generate and manage publicity for a public figure, especially a celebrity, or for a work such as a book or movie. ...
Famous incidents of age-fudging and other discredited information
- Danny Almonte, born April 7, 1987 played in the Little League World Series for his Bronx team in 2001, despite being over the cutoff age for the league. His parents had provided a doctored birth certificate misrepresenting his birth year as 1989. A Sports Illustrated writer discovered the discrepancy when Almonte's Dominican elementary school records gave his correct birth year.
- Lucille Ball, born August 6, 1911 and Desi Arnaz, born March 2, 1917, had split the difference of their ages for the purpose of being the same age, largely because it was uncommon for men to marry older women at the time. Both claimed to have been born in 1914.
- Charo, born March 13, 1941 had previously trimmed 10 years off of her age, claiming to have been born in 1951.
- Fabio, born March 15, 1959, had previously claimed to have been born in 1961. In 2001, he was discovered by People magazine to actually be age 41.
- 50 Cent, born July 6, 1975. Many sources incorrectly list his birth year as 1976; but 1975 was verified when the documents of his arrest in August 1994 surfaced his age was listed as 19 years on his police report. Popular databases such as IMDb have adopted 1975 as the correct year.
- Laurence Fishburne, born July 30, 1961 had previously claimed to have been born in 1958 in order to win a part in Apocalypse Now. He also visibly aged during the film's lengthly production.
- Teresa Gorman, born September 30, 1931, knocked first five, and then ten, years off her age when seeking selection as Conservative Party candidate for Billericay in 1987, due to her fear that a woman in her fifties would never be selected.
- Frida Kahlo, born July 6, 1907 had changed her birth year to 1910 in order to affiliate herself further with being a product of the Mexican Revolution, which began in 1910.
- Orlando Hernández, born October 11, 1965, claimed to have been born in 1969 when he defected from Cuba in 1997 to pitch in Major League Baseball. The Smoking Gun published his divorce decree from Cuba, which gave his year of birth as 1965. Both the official web site of Major League Baseball and ESPN still list the incorrect 1969 date.
- Jennifer Lopez, born July 24, 1969 had previously claimed to be a year younger, being born in 1970. Her true birth year was revealed when she was arrested with Sean Combs in New York after the night club shooting incident. She wrote, under oath, in the police report, that she was born July 24, 1969. Her high school classmates who were interviewed on a special TV show that was taped also confirmed this date.
- Traci Lords, born on May 7, 1968, Lords claimed to have been born in 1964 for the purpose of being eligible to act in pornographic films. On July 18, 1986 it was discovered that she had only recently turned 18, and most of her pornographic films had been made while she was underaged.
- Nancy Reagan, born July 6, 1921, gave her birth year as 1923 during her career as an actress, and carried the deception over when she became First Lady of the United States, going so far as to publish the incorrect 1923 date in her autobiography. Because of this, many World Almanacs had the wrong date.
- Jackie Stallone, mother of actor Sylvester Stallone has claimed to have been born in 1933. That age is very unlikely, as her son would have been born when she was only 13. Her age has never been fully authenticated, but it is widely believed she was actually born in 1923.

According to rumors, the false age was propagated into his professional career to keep up the media hype.
