Agravain is sometimes called "of the Hard Hand", as in "Sir Gawain and the Green Knight", an English poem by an unknown author. This hints at a more heroic pre-Vulgate past. In modern Arthuriana, his character has only got worse; in "The Once And Future King" by TH White he is made the murderer of his mother Morgause rather than his brother Gaheris, and given a cowardly, drunken, bloodthirsty character (though not an altogether unsympathetic one.) In Arthurian legend, Morgause (also known as Anna-Morgause) is the half-sister of King Arthur who slept with him and produced Mordred, the incestuous heir that would lead to Camelots downfall. ... In Arthurian legend, Sir Gaheris was a knight of the Round Table. ...
