In Brazil, the agreste is a narrow zone in the states of ParaÃba, Pernambuco, Alagoas, Sergipe and Bahia between the coastal zona da mata (forest zone) and the semiarid sertão.
Most of the agreste is hilly, with the hills becoming higher in the south, except near the narrow valley of the São Francisco River.
Like the sertão, the agreste is frequently affected by drought, though generally the effects are less severe.
FUNDACION AGRESTE ARGENTINA is a non-profit and non-governmental organisation without political or religious affiliations, created on June 18th 1993, by a group of people concerned with the environment and the quality of life of people, fauna and flora.
Fundación Agreste Argentina is a charity dedicated to helping and educating communties and protecting the environment, so that through their work, students also gained an understanding of the culture and the people of Argentina.
Fundación Agreste Argentina organises 4 travesÃas (journeys throughout the country to hand out donations) per year, so students have many opportunities to see for themselves the country and the people.
