Agua loca or "crazy water" is the name of an alcoholic beverage prepared since ancient times in Mexico. The main ingredient is sugarcane distillate, although it can be prepared with other alcoholic beverages such as mezcal or tequila. Its flavor is generally horchata or rice water, with plenty of sugar, or also hibiscus flavor can be found. This drink is prepared using a liter of sugarcane distillate, a liter of some flavor syrup of the type for preparing "aguas frescas" (fruit drinks with lots of sugar) and between 5 and 10 liters of water depending on the desired concentration. It is put in a big container like a pitcher or jug and is cooled with ice. It is important to mention that the water used should be straight from the tap, since this gives it a special taste. Maybe at first the taste of alcohol is not felt or you don't think it's going to "hit" you but at the passing of some 15 or 20 minutes you will note the effect.
