Menyinggung soal adanya pandangan Presiden Megawati Soekarnoputri lebih menyukai kalangan TNI ketimbang sipil sebagai Wapres, Agum dengan nada diplomatis mengatakan, dirinya secara pribadi memang memiliki hubungan emosional yang akrab dengan Megawati, namun soal siapa calon Wapres, itu tergantung kepada proses politik di MPR.
Agum juga meminta semua pihak, khususnya para pimpinan partai politik, untuk memberi kesempatan kepada pemerintahan baru di bawah kepemimpinan Presiden Megawati Soekarnoputri untuk bekerja.
Ketika ditanyakan apakah konsensus untuk tidak mengganggu Megawati sampai 2004 itu perlu dituangkan dalam garansi tertulis dari para pimpinan Parpol, Agum mengatakan bisa saja demikian.
