The flagtails or aholeholes are a family (Kuhliidae) of perciform fish of the Indo-Pacific area. The family consists of nine species in one genus Kuhlia, of which one (K. rupestris) is freshwater, with the others marine.

The distinctive characteristic of these fish is a scaly sheath around the dorsal and anal fins. The dorsal fin is deeply notched between the 10 spines and the 9-13 soft rays. The opercle has two spines, and the anal fin three. Their bodies are compressed and silvery, and they tend to be small, growing to 50 cm at most.

During the day they usually school, dispersing at night to feed on free-swimming crustaceans.

EKF :: Ku’ula 10-12 Curriculum (1185 words)
We would like to experiment raising Aholehole and see if we can be successful in nurturing and reproducing this marine life species.
Our project is important because we are reproducing the Aholehole fish, and are trying to have enough fish so when one of the people of Keaukaha get hungry for this fish they can come and take fish from us and feed their family.
If we were to do another project based on the same content, the project would be about the history of the Aholehole and how the Hawaiians raised and nurtured the fish, and to compare the difference from their doing to ours, and if the outcome of it all would be successful.
