Aholiab - tent of the father, an artist of the Tribe of Dan, appointed to the work of preparing materials for the tabernacle (Exodus. 31:6; 35:34; 36:1, 2; 38:23).
And with him was Aholiab, son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan, an engraver, and a cunning workman, and an embroiderer in blue, and in purple, and in scarlet, and fine linen.
Aholiab, of the tribe of "Dan," which means "judge," brought up the rear of the procession.
Though Aholiab and Bezaleel were the chosen leaders for the work of the building of the Tabernacle, they would have been helpless without these individuals whose hearts stirred them to give willingly of the materials wherewith the Tabernacle was built.
Aholiab signifies The Tent of the Father. In the light of John 1:14, And the Word became flesh and dwelt (Greek, tented) among us, and we beheld His glory, the force of this name is clear.
Aholiab was the son of Ahisamach, and the latter name signifies Brother of Support. As another has said, Probably this name primarily refers to the fact that Aholiab was a fellow-helper to Bezaleel in the work of the tabernacle.
Aholiab was of the tribe of Daniel As Judah took the lead when Israel was on the march, so Dan brought up the rear.
