Sufferers may fear the physical and mystical traits of cats

Ailurophobia is a type of specific phobia. It is a persistent, irrational fear of cats[1]and is usually triggered by events such as witnessing a cat giving birth; in rare cases Ailurphobia can even be caused by HydroFlufaphobia, a fear of fluffy animals with no regard for Non fluffy ones. Anyway, it comes from the Greek ailouros (cat) and phobos (fear). People who suffer from Ailurophobia often not only fear physical contact, such as bites and scratches, but the perceived supernatural nature of cats as well as those depicted in the literary works as Edgar Allan Poe's "The Black Cat." Ailurophobia refers to the condition of having an abnormal, extreme, and persistent fear of cats, sometimes more specifically of being harmed (such as attacked, bitten, or scratched) by a cat or cats.
Even though many adult sufferers of ailurophobia (and/or other fears/phobias) are aware that their fears are unreasonable, many still experience severe anxiety even when just thinking about the subject or situation they fear.
However, phobias such as ailurophobia are a known form of anxiety disorder and may be treated conventionally using cognitive behavioral therapy including exposure and fear reduction techniques.
