Airport and East Hills line (green)

The Airport and East Hills is a railway line in Sydney, part of the CityRail metropolitan network. It can be considered in two parts: an underground airport line and an older overground East Hills line. The line begins at Town Hall station in the City Circle. After Central station it travels underground via Sydney Airport then emerges at Wolli Creek where it runs as 4 tracks to Beverly Hills, then as two tracks to Glenfield Junction. Here it joins up with the Southern line and runs to Campbelltown and terminates at Macarthur Image File history File links Download high resolution version (1000x781, 32 KB) Summary Cityrail sydney airport & east hills line (green), I made the image in Corel Painter IX Licensing File links The following pages link to this file: Airport and East Hills railway line, Sydney ... The Airport Line segment was constructed after the main East Hills line and is an underground CityRail railway line that opened in the year 2000, just in time for the 2000 Summer Olympics. The line and some of the stations were constructed by a corporation and attract a higher fare than is usual for CityRail lines. However as of 2004 the corporation was in financial difficulty. The fiasco resulted in the Government of New South Wales being contractually forced to accept the debts of the "private rail line". This whole episode is a fine example of the principal of public-private-partnership, the private sector accepts the profits, the public sector accepts the risks. This contract was signed under the Premiership of John Fahey, who later moved on to the Finance portfolio in the Australian Federal Government. Clearways Project

There are two projects on the East Hills line for the Clearways project. Firstly, the turnback with one platform at East Hills will be supplemented by a turnback with 2 platforms at Revesby. Secondly, the two track section between Kingsgrove and Revesby will be expanded to four tracks. These projects will allow the all stations service to Revesby via the Airport to be segregated from the limited stop service to Macarthur via Sydenham.
