The line and some of the stations were constructed by a corporation and attract a higher fare than is usual for CityRail lines. However this corporation is in financial difficulty.

Sydney is a significant global and domestic tourist destination and is regularly declared to be one of the most beautiful and liveable cities in the world, admired for its harbour, beautiful coastline, warm and pleasant climate and cosmopolitan culture.
Sydney is located in a coastal basin between the Pacific Ocean to the east and the Blue Mountains to the west.
Because the original underground lines were built in conjunction with the construction of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, a decision was made to have the lines in shallow tunnels so as to minimise the height difference between the underground rails and their extension across the bridge.
The third underground line is the AirportLine, which opened in the year 2000, prior to the Sydney Olympics.
The line was originally intended to be extended from Epping to Parramatta, incorporating the existing Carlingfordline, however this section has been postponed indefinitely.
