The Akamba live in Kenya, Africa. The supreme god is called Asa ("father" also Mwatuangi meaning "distributor," Mulungu meaning "creator" and Mumbi "fashioner") is a merciful and generally benevolent ruler of the spirits.

The area inhabited by the Akamba is called Ukamba.
One branch of the Akamba clan went East of Ulu, crossed the River Athi and separated themselves from the rest for generations.
Long before the arrival of the Europeans, the Akamba were great traders and organized caravans that brought ivory to the Arab traders in Mombassa (some 500 miles from their homes and back).
Population growth and a sustainable environment (6779 words)
Fears spread among the Akamba that their existing land rights, which by custom were established by clearing and cultivation, would be threatened by work done by government tractors or government-paid labor gangs.
To the mystification of officials, the Akamba adamantly refused both kinds of assistance but reluctantly accepted compulsory labor on terracing and grass-planting two mornings a week, which was enforced by the government-appointed chiefs of each location (an administrative subunit).
Meanwhile, forest reservation was unpopular with the Akamba (who suspected the government of alienating them from their land), and its increasing costs and technical difficulty forced a shift to on-farm forestry in the 1970s.
