Akazu (Little house) is an informal organisation of hutus created around former president Juvenal Habyarimana, being responsible, among others, for planning the 1994 genocide. Akazu grouped Habyarimana's clan members, who were assigned important ministerial and economic positions. Akazu did not want to share political or economic power with tutis and even other hutus and sought a way in a mass genocide to prevent a power loss.
