As of the 2005/06 season Akratitos were relegated to Beta Ethniki after finishing last in the tables. They had the lowest average attendance of only a few hundred. [1] The club rose from the lower ranks to the top flight under the stewardship of Yannis Pathiakakis, who in 2002 died on the pitch during a training session. The stadium is now named after him.

When Akratitos played Kalithea, another Athens team, on March 20, the Kalithea coach was hospitalized for three days after losing consciousness after the game.
After an April 17 game between host Akratitos and Ionikos, at least one player from the visiting team was hospitalized and doctors were unsure what caused him to pass out.
Akratitos ended up with 5 wins, 8 draws and 17 losses, and was relegated to the second division after finishing 14th in the 16-team league.
