Al Bahr al Ahmar (Red Sea) is one of the 26 wilayat or states of Sudan. It has an area of 218,887 km2 and an estimated population of approximately 700,000 (2000). Bur Sudan is the capital of the state.
The Republic of the Sudan, or Sudan, is the largest country in Africa, situated in the northeast part of the continent.
Elections were held in April 1965 but Sudan had a series of governments that proved unable either to agree on a permanent constitution or to cope with problems of factionalism, economic stagnation, and ethnic dissidence.
Sudan is situated in Northern Africa, bordering the Red Sea, between Egypt and Eritrea.
