Al Karama is a suburb of Dubai and a centre of mainly Asian expatriate settlement. Many buildings in the area are extremely old but these are being rapidly demolished and replaced by newer and more chic buildings by the Govt authorities. Finding a parking space is extremely difficult with covered parking being offered by most of the newly constructed builidngs.Crime rate is relatively high compared to most other parts of Dubai. In addition Karama has a bustling commercial sector with many shops catering to a wide variety of tastes among the consumers as necessitated by the multiethnic population of the area. Although accommodation in the area has traditionally been low priced, inflation has seen spiralling rents as in most other parts of Dubai. Perhaps the main attraction of this area for tourists is the availability of counterfeit goods, particularly handbags and clothing. Owing to periodic clampdowns by the authorities, shop owners have become quite ingenious in disguising the areas where the fake goods are stored for sale.
