Alain Peyrefitte (August 26, 1925 - November 27, 1999) was a French scholar and politician. His book The Immobile Empire (1992, in French) was his greatest achievement. He became a member of the Académie française in 1977. On the set of the film, Peyrefitte met the 12-year-old aristocrat Alain-Philippe Malagnac d'Argens de Villele who had been cast as a choir boy and was a big fan of the book.
