Encyclopedia > Alan N. Cohen

Alan N. Cohen (December 19, 1930 in Passaic, New Jersey - August 10, 2004 in Boca Raton, Florida) was the former co-owner of the Boston Celtics and the New Jersey Nets, and chairman and CEO of the Madison Square Garden Corporation, owner of the New York Knicks and the New York Rangers.

Cohen began his career in law and entertainment some years after he graduated from Columbia College, and Columbia Law School. Before he gained prominence as a co-owner of the Celtics, he was part of a group that owned the New York Cosmos, which made international headlines by signing superstar Pele.

While not known as an innovator, Cohen did come up with the idea of placing revolving advertisements courtside at NBA games.
