Albert Coombs Barnes (January 2, 1872 - July 24, 1951) was an American inventor and art collector who derived his fortune from the development of the antiseptic drug Argyrol. From 1910 he began to dedicate himself to the pursuit of the arts. In 1912, during a travel to Paris, he attended the house of Gertrude and Leo Stein where he gained the acquaintance of artists like Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso. In the 1920s he got to know, thanks to the merchant Paul Guillaume, the work of Amedeo Modigliani and Giorgio de Chirico. His Pennsylvania home has become the site for the Barnes Foundation, a popular art collection. January 2 is the second day of the year in the Gregorian calendar. ...
