Highway 1 is southern Alberta's primary east-west highway. It is part of the Trans-Canada Highway system and spans from the Alberta-Saskatchewan border to the Alberta-British Columbia border. Almost the entire span of the highway is a minimum of two lanes in both directions and is divided. It passes through Medicine Hat, Calgary (where it becomes 16th Avenue N.), and Banff.
