Appearances in StarCraft storyline Aldaris is first seen in-game as an advisor to the new Executor at the beginning of Episode III, after the Zerg Overmind landed on Aiur and its Zerg troops rampaged over the planet, winning a string of victories. Aldaris helped direct a nearly hopeless battle in the province of Antioch, and seeing Fenix achieve victory there, announced that he had regained faith in the Templar Caste. Tassadar appears, telling Aldaris that he should never have lost faith. Aldaris demands Tassadar explain his absence, and Tassadar replies he has been on Char, learning from the Dark Templar Prelate, Zeratul. Aldaris claims that such actions are heresy, but does authorize an attack on a Zerg Cerebrate with Tassadar's advice. Aldaris claims to sense the taint of the "Fallen Ones" on Tassadar's mind, and orders him to return to Aiur: Tassadar refuses. Shadow Hunting Despite the death of a revered warrior, the Protoss Conclave considers its tactics to be working against the Zerg, and thus order Aldaris and the Executor to go to Char and arrest Tassadar for heresy and treason. The two find Tassadar with Jim Raynor on an orbital platform. Aldaris proceeded to insult Tassadar for his choice of companionship, while Tassadar is outraged that Aldaris would come all the way to Char to arrest him, rather than fight the Zerg on Aiur. Pleading with the Executor to help him find Zeratul on the planet's surface, Tassadar and the Executor descended to Char while an outraged Aldaris returned to Aiur. Tassadar succeeded in recovering Zeratul and returning to Aiur, but Aldaris had already informed the Conclave of this and awaited their arrival with the intent to arrest them and the Executor for treason. Fenix, reborn as a Dragoon, provided them shelter in a small base while they worked to defeat the Conclave's agents. Zeratul led his Dark Templar behind the Conclave's defense and destroyed the heart of their main base. However, by this time the battle had taken its toll on Tassadar, and, disgusted with the sight of Protoss warriors slaughtering each other, surrendered. Aldaris made it clear to Tassadar his fate was grim, but Tassadar claimed he acted not for the Conclave, but for Aiur: "given the same choices again, I would surely have made them". Aldaris took Tassadar into custody while Fenix and the Executor escaped. Zeratul and his brethren vanished as well. Aldaris held Tassadar captive while the Conclave held a trial that would surely end in Tassadar's execution. Fenix, with the assistance of Jim Raynor who arrived to pay back his debt to Tassadar, destroyed Tassadar's Stasis Cell and freed him. Aldaris quickly arrived with reinforcements, but was trumped with Zeratul and more Dark Templar arrived shortly after. After a debate over the ethics of the Conclave, Aldaris bitterly let them leave and withdrew his forces.
The Fall of Aiur Zeratul led an attack against two Zerg Cerebrates on Aiur, slaying them both and weakening the Zerg enough to lead an alliance of Raynor and Tassadar's forces to infiltrate the Overmind's perimeter. The Conclave sent Aldaris to apologize to them, and, having witnessed the successful fall of the Cerebrates, wished them luck. Following the death of both Tassadar and the Overmind, Aldaris gave shelter to the Executor and his allies. Zeratul led an evacuation to Shakuras, and while Aldaris was reluctant to abandon Aiur, Zeratul urged him to learn from the Conclave's mistakes and swallow his pride. Aldaris, the Executor, Zeratul, Artanis and a band of survivors successfully fled while Fenix and Raynor remained to hold off the Zerg. Final Moments On Shakuras, the Dark Templar Matriarch Raszagal accepted the survivors, and Aldaris in turn, seemed to accept her leadership for the time being. The united Templar liberated a Xel'Naga temple from the Zerg, but Kerrigan arrived in the aftermath and requested a parley. Aldaris, believing her to be lying, refused to accept this alliance and walked out of the briefing room when Raszagal waved off his accusations. While the Executor recovered the two crystals needed to use the Temple, Aldaris somehow discovered Raszagal was being mentally controlled by Kerrigan. He led a band of Khali survivors against her, but the returning Executor repelled this attack. Zeratul and Artanis begged Aldaris to stop his rebellion while Aldaris attempted to reveal his discovery. Unfortunately, Kerrigan arrived and killed him before he could do so. Aldaris' death seemingly quelled the Khali rebels, and they rejoined the Dark Templar. Kerrigan's audacity to interfere in what Zeratul deemed a Protoss problem caused them to reject her and banish her from Shakuras, a goal Aldaris hoped for. In the end, however, Zeratul would not discover Raszagal's secret until Kerrigan had already manipulated him into killing the Overmind.
