Aldershot is a town in the English county of Hampshire, on a moorland 55 km (35 miles) southwest of London, and is administered by Rushmoor Borough Council.
Aldershot is known for its connection with the British Army which established a permanent camp in the area for instruction in military manoeuvres, in 1854.
Aldershot's MP is Gerald Howarth (Conservative), with a majority of 5334 (May 2005).
In 1962, most of the township of Nelson was annexed including, Aldershot and it became a city in 1974, upon the creation of the Regional Municipality of Halton (and some land in the north and northeast became part of Milton.
