Alessandro Galilei (1691 - 1736) was a Florentine architect and theorist. After moving to London in 1714, he participated in a variety of architectural projects, most notably collaborating with the civic engineer Nicholas Dubois. Returning to Florence, he was appointed chief architect of the great duke of Tuscany. Shortly thereafter, in 1730, he was called to Rome by Pope Clement XII. During the next six years, he created his most notable works, which were executed in a Classical, anti-Baroque style: the Cappella Corsini in St John Lateran (1732), the facade of St John Lateran (1733-1736), and the facade of San Giovanni dei Fiorentini (1734). He died in Rome.
