Encyclopedia > Alex Agnew

Alex Agnew is a Belgian stand up comedian. In February 2003 he was the first Belgian to win the prestigious Leids Cabaret Festival. Richard Pryor hits the money line A stand-up comedian or stand-up comic is someone that performs in comedy clubs, usually reciting a fast paced succession of amusing stories, short jokes and one-liners, typically called a monologue. ...

After this initial success he has been performing in comedy shows like De Bovenste Plank and Comedy Casino on the Belgian channel Canvas.

Agnew is without a doubt one of the most promising new stand up talents in the low lands. “KA-BOOM!” is his first solo comedy show. Alex is the son of an English father and a Belgian mother. He is influenced by an overdose of (action)movies, superheroes, comic books, a lot of music, ranging from Tom Jones and musicals to heavy metal and the new age his sister played. He brings no calm, intellectual, profound comedy but genuine rock 'n' roll comedy. He is not only a praiseworthy singer, he also produces - similar to Najib Amhali - sound effects. He has a very dynamic show and he does not hesitate to broach sensitive subjects. Agnew has been quoted saying that he does not consider taboos to be useful because a taboo inherently is a form of self censoring.

The "KA-BOOM!" tour spanned the whole 2005-2006 season. Early 2007 Alex kicked off his new show, "Morimos Solamente".

Agnew's girlfriend runs a popular comedy club, The Joker, in Antwerp For other uses, see Antwerp (disambiguation). ...
