Alexander Soloviev (Александр Соловьёв), (born 1846, hanged 1879), was a former student who, on April 20th, 1879, attempted (unsuccessfully) assassinate Tsar Alexander II of Russia with a revolver. According to a footnote on page 61 of Vera Figner's autobiography, Memoirs of a Revolutionist, his shot missed because a peasant by the name of Komissarov saw the gun and deflected Soloviev's hand.
