Alexandria is the name of many cities and towns in different countries. During his reign, Alexander the Great established or renamed several cities called Alexandria (and similar names) around the Mediterranean, the Middle East and Central Asia. The most famous of these is the one in Egypt, which is still in existence under that name. Altogether, around 70 cities are said to have been founded by Alexander.
