Alexis was trained by the Serbian Special Forces and was part of the terrorist plot to assassinate Senator David Palmer. He had an intimate relationship with Elizabeth Nash, one of Senator Palmer's aides from whom he received information about the Senator's travel plans. When CTU forwards the pictures of the suspected assassins including Alexis to Palmer's campaign team, Elizabeth recognizes him. She approaches Jack Bauer who sends her to meet with Alexis and plant a tracking device in his wallet. However, an emotionally distressed Elizabeth stabs him in the abdomen instead, critically injuring him.

Later in the day, Victor Drazen, who has taken Jack Bauer hostage calls CTU and demands the release of Alexis in exchange for Bauer's life. Despite Alexis having not yet recovered from his injuries, CTU agrees to the trade. He is returned to his father and brother but, having sustained severe internal bleeding, dies shortly afterward.
