AlfredThomas Archimedes Torbert (July 1, 1833 – August 29, 1880) was a career U.S. Army officer, a Union army general commanding both infantry and cavalry forces in the American Civil War, and a U.S. diplomat.
During Philip Sheridan's Valley Campaigns of 1864, Torbert commanded the Cavalry Corps of the Army of the Shenandoah and was promoted to brevet major general on September 9, 1864.
Torbert commanded the Army of the Shenandoah from April 22, 1865, to June 27, 1865.
AlfredThomas was involved with Cymru Fydd, serving as President of the Welsh National Federation, the body formed by the merger of Cymru Fydd and the North Wales Liberal Federation.
Extra-Parlimentary posts held by AlfredThomas included Justice of the Peace for Cardiff and Glamorgan, Deputy Lieutenant for Glamorgan, first President of the National Museum of Wales, President of Cardiff University and President of the Welsh Baptist Union for 1886.
AlfredThomas was elected Chairman of the Welsh Parliamentary Liberal Party in 1898.
