Ali Alatas (born Jakarta, 4 November 1932) is an Indonesian diplomat of Hadhrami descent who served as the country's foreign minister. Ali Alatas is a Sayyid, which means a direct decendant of the Prophet Muhammad SAW through Fatimah, the daughter of the Prophet and Imam Ali ibn Abithalib (the 1st Imam and the 4th ruler of the Islamic Caliphate after Muhammad).
