She began playing professional jazz in Detroit, with her own trio and as a duo with vibes player Terry Pollard. Since her husband's death she has continued to play with her own groups, moving into more and more meditative music, and recently playing with her children. She is one of the few harpists in the history of jazz.


In the early 1970's, after years of involvement with Eastern Metaphysics, Coltrane had a spiritual realization and took on the Sanskrit name Swami Turyasangitananda.
