Achievements AVMS was a California Distinguished School in 1996 and a National Blue Ribbon School in 2000. It consistently scores high on standardized tests, and is in the top 50% of comparable schools. It has also won awards in the VideoFest, CA State Media Festival, and National History Day. It is known for its consistent excellence in technology, aided by Capistrano Unified School District's COMPEL.
Athletics AVMS has been host to a "Marathon Team" since the year 2002, with less than 20 runners competing. It is overseen by the organization Sport and Recreation Law Association (SRLA).
