James Keir Baxter (June 29, 1926—October 22, 1972) was a New Zealand poet, and a controversial figure in New Zealand society.
He was a member of the Wellington Group of writers with Louis Johnson, W.H. Oliver and Alistair Campbell.
This was the culmination of a short period in which he struggled with family life and his vocation as a poet.

Campbell later admitted that he knew his mother too little, and much of the melancholy in his personality and poetry is due to that.
Alistair Campbell received a grant from Creative New Zealand in 2000 to write a poetic sequence about his brother, who was killed in Italy fighting with the Maori Battalion in 1945.
Alistair Te Ariki Campbell was born in 1925, not 1926.
