Alkemade (population: 14,481 in 2004) is a municipality in the western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland. The municipality covers an area of 30.88 kmē (of which 3.93 kmē water).


The municipality of Alkemade comprises the villages Kaag, Nieuwe Wetering, Oud Ade, Oude Wetering, Rijpwetering and Roelofarendsveen. There is no settlement called Alkemade itself.

Nick Alkemade was a tail gunner for an Royal Air Force AVRO Lancaster Bomber during World War II who is notable for surviving a "chuteless jump".
On March 23, 1944, Alkemade's plane was attacked by a Luftwaffe Junkers Ju 88 fighter plane and began to spiral out of control.
Because his parachute was in the cabin, Alkemade opted to jump from the aircraft, preferring his death to be quick.
