The All England Open Badminton Championships is one of the oldest and most prestigious badminton tournaments. Starting in 1899 as The Open English Championships, with only three categories (Men's Doubles, Women's Doubles and Mixed Doubles), the tournament has outgrown seven venues, and is now played at the National Indoor Arena, Birmingham. Since 1984 the tournament has been exclusively sponsored by Yonex. It was considered the unofficial World Badminton Championships until 1977 when the IBF launched its tournament.
