Miscellanea
The inner-edge of the CD case reveals a hidden message: "Boo!". Such hidden messages are present on many of AFI's releases on Nitro Records.
The album artwork was designed by Alan Forbes, who has done most of AFI's other artworks as well.
Hunter was still in The Force until he permanently joined AFI during the "A Fire Inside" EP.
The next release was the "A Fire Inside" EP, which was the first EP they ever released.
In 2003, the band's first major label release, "Sing the Sorrow", came out, getting great record sales, but losing many of the older fans, whom considered the album to be somewhat corporate, and lacking in the older hardcore punk sound of their previous releases.
After the recording of the A Fire Inside EP in 1998, Mark left the band to be replaced by guitarist Jade Puget who was critical in forming the bands new sound over the following albums.
Following on from the new gothic influenced approach they had taken on the afformention A Fire Inside EP (released on Adeline records) the band recorded their Black Sails in the Sunset (Nitro 1998) album on which their gothic approach was fully apparent, especially in the lyrics of Davey Havok.
On this album, and the following All HallowsEP (Nitro 1999), other EPs and the seminal The Art of Drowning album (Nitro 2000) their original punk roots were still quite apparent in their musical approach.
