The Town

Most people are of Irish, Scotish, or French descent. Like with most of Aroostook County, Allagash has several private potato farmers.

The Allagash K-12 school closed in the mid-1990s, and since then the students have been attending schools in MSAD #27 in St. Francis and Fort Kent.

The town is set up with a simple government. There is a First Selectman, Second Selectman, Third Selectman, Treasurer, Clerk, and Tax Manager.

Religion

The town has three churches: Baptist, Pentecostal, and Catholic. The Catholic Church, however, closed several years ago and Catholics in the town now go to St. Francis on Saturdays. The Baptist and Pentecostal congregations are large and meet from 10-11 for Sunday School and 11-12 for service. The Baptist Church has a nearby parsonage and the Pentecostal Church has a parsonage about half a mile from the Church.
