Allan Joseph Lamb (born 20 June1954) is a former Englishcricketer. Born in Cape Province, South Africa Lamb first played first_class cricket for Western Province, before being signed as an overseas player by Northamptonshire. Their he made his fame, and was persuaded that, with South Africa banned from test matchcricket because of the apartheid régime, he was best taking advantage of his parents' English heritage to play for England. In the years that followed, he showed his dedication to England on many occasions, playing in 79 tests. He even captained England on three occasions, losing every one of them, although he led Northamptonshire almost to the County Championship in 1995. Lamb was named Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 1981.
A great friend of Ian Botham, in his retirement Lamb went on a stage tour with him, discussing various humorous incidents that had happened to them as England players.

Lamb, of Irish decent, is usually regarded as the only non African American of the great early classic ragtime composers.
With the revival of interest in ragtime in the 1950s Lamb shared his memories of Joplin and other early ragtime figures with music historians, composed some new rags and brought out some of his old compositions that had never been published, and made some recordings.
Lamb, of Irish descent, was the only non African American of the "Big Three" composers of classical ragtime, the other two being Scott Joplin and James Scott.
