Allerton is a city located in Wayne County, Iowa. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 559.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 3.0 km˛ (1.1 mi˛). 3.0 km˛ (1.1 mi˛) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.
Demographics As of the census2 of 2000, there are 559 people, 231 households, and 155 families residing in the city. The population density is 189.3/km˛ (490.4/mi˛). There are 287 housing units at an average density of 97.2/km˛ (251.8/mi˛). The racial makeup of the city is 99.28% White, 0.00% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.18% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.54% from two or more races. 0.89% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 231 households out of which 34.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.9% are married couples living together, 12.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.5% are non-families. 30.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 17.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.42 and the average family size is 2.99.
